Jesus says in Matthew 7 that those who hear His words and put them into practice is like a man who builds his house on a rock. When the storms of life come, the house stands because of its foundation. Jesus also says that a person who does not put His words into practice is like a man who builds his house on sand. When the storms of life come, his house will fall because of its foundation. 

Fasting at the beginning of the year is laying the proper foundation for the rest of the year to be built on top of.  Faulty foundation = Faulty structure. Strong foundation = Strong structure

Fasting coupled with intentional prayer is a spiritual accelerant. An accelerant speeds up a process and makes it spread further faster. Fasting pours gas on your fire for God as you’re intentionally saying no to your flesh and yes to your spirit for an allotted time. When you’re out in the woods and you’ve found a place to set up camp for the night, you build a fire to keep you warm and to cook from. When that fire begins to sputter and go out, what do you do? You’ve gotta add accelerants…more wood and lighter fluid to get that fire burning bright again. For some of you, 2023 has just about put your fire for God OUT, but these 10 days of fasting and prayer are going to be an accelerant igniting that fire back in you!

Don’t let the devil snuff out your fire! 

As our all church fast commences, something that I encourage you to do is to write down specific things that you are believing God for this year, and pray for those things over the next 10 days. Some of the things you could be believing for could be:

• Freedom from a besetting sin. 

• Peace over anxiety.

• A promotion or raise at work.

• Financial provision

• A family member, neighbor, or co-worker to come to church with you and get saved. 

• Physical or emotional healing

• Direction in life
