DAY 4

Dane + Nina Shearer

It’s difficult to remain centered in our true origins and our actual identity rooted in Christ as we walk through the daily grind of life. Often times we have unrealistic expectations that we put on ourselves and an unhealthy self-image, and as a result, we lose sight of the actual, authentic development of our existence in general. We are a creation preordained by the Lord who knew us before we were born and who had us carefully woven into our mother’s womb.

If we stopped to think about the depth of all these concepts, that just like all the creations commanded into existence - from the heavens above to the earth we walk on, from the oceans separated from land, to the animals that walk the land which we were given dominion over, and to the authority given to us by God in the Holy Spirit - we, too, are a creation of God. We are by no means less magnificent than the aforementioned creations. In fact, beyond that, we were made in God’s image. The vastness of this mere truth alone is invaluable. We were created to become like Christ. God announced this intention at Creation:

“Then God said, ‘Let Us make human beings in Our image and likeness’”. Genesis 1:26

In all of creation, only human beings are made “in God’s image.” This is a great privilege and gives us a sense of dignity.

This knowledge alone should open our hearts to the ability to not only walk a walk of graciousness, but in an incomparable trust in Him through times of apathy, uncertainty, or adversity. These truths should inspire us to be recharged with a renewed mind simply in the acknowledgment and meditation on these potent realities. I have learned that in concert with the act of our daily surrender to the Lord to submit to His guidance, His revelations, and His will, the simple act of obedience to have faith in this beautiful epitome of our identity leads to comfort in resting in Him in every corner of my life. In Romans 12:2 , I am reminded -

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2

In Proverbs 3:5-6, I am reminded -

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (CSB)

And stated in a quote from another source on trust -

“You may be deceived if you trust too much, but you will live in torment if do not trust enough." - Frank Crane

Let’s try to wrap our brains around this embodiment of our purpose truly divined by our magnificent Creator, the one that called us into existence to become perfected in His image, and the one who is always with us and can be leaned on at all times.
