“So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
'Cause all that I have is a hallelujah
Hallelujah”
- Gratitude by Brandon Lake

I think by now we are mostly familiar with those lyrics and if you are like me then the melody began to play in the back of your mind and you finished the words by singing the “Hallelujah,” but have you taken a few moments to take in the weight the words you are singing?  You see most times we tend to just sing along until we are going through what feels like wilderness and realize that we truly only have one thing to give the Lord and that is our worship.

When things are going well and we are getting our prayers answered, it is much easier to sing those words but when you are going to the doctors to confirm another miscarriage…that declaration becomes a little different.  We truly had nothing else to give but to raise our hands in worship to Him who made the heavens and the earth.  You see, I have learned that through deep heartache is when I’ve realized that nothing I have is really mine, but it is all given by God.  This is when Job comes to mind-as he heard the news of losing every single thing he loved and cared about the Bible tells us:

“'Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head, and he fell to the ground and worshiped.

21 He said,

‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked I shall return there.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away.
Blessed be the name of the Lord.’

22 Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God.”

Job 1:20-22

Job did not sin. After hearing how the Sabeans attacked and took his livelihood and killed his servants, as fire from heaven fell and burned up his cattle, as the Chaldeans made a raid and took his camels and after a great wind took the lives of all his children… Job did not sin.  He felt the weight of loss, he experienced the waves that come with grieving and fell to the ground and worshipped.  He recognized in that moment that he had nothing to offer back to the Lord because everything is His, so he worshipped God.

I’m not sure what these last few days have been for you, or what last year was but can I encourage you to take a moment and realize that every moment we have with the Lord during these 10 days are moments where we give all our worship to Him.  These are moments that we recognized His Lordship (Galatians 2:20), His Authority (Matthew 28:18), and His Goodness (Psalms 34:8).  Whether we are in the waiting, or thanking God for the miracle, God is still God and He deserves all our Hallelujah’s.

“So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name” Psalms 63:4
